A talk by Caroline Muir who runs an amazing charity called 18 Keys. Caroline will talk about Women & Homelessness - A Hidden Crisis
Caroline will explain why it is a crisis and why it is hidden plus what her charity, 18 Keys, is doing to help.
Women and homelessness – a hidden crisis
Women who are rough sleeping find themselves in a vicious circle. Many have fled physical and sexual abuse by men, but the support and services they need to recover are male-dominated. Fearful of hostels and refuges, they stay away. So those places don’t change and women become invisible in homelessness statistics.
Space, stability and support
18 Keys is a place women can come to recover and become independent again.
Your support will help us maintain a sector leading programme of services for women who are looking for a safe and hopeful future.
18 Keys is a place to...
talk to professionals trained to support women with high-level needs
spend time with other women who have been through similar traumas
access services safely, without fear
participate in regenerative activities like meditation, cooking and growing vegetables
choose all of these things in their own time
Meeting the needs of women experiencing homelessness
Many hostels and refuges in London lack the right facilities, services and spaces for women’s needs. The 18 Keys project will be a tailor-made space to help meet the many challenges facing women currently sleeping rough.
